What is Verified Origin and how does STIR/SHAKEN work in Brazil
Verified Origin is the evolution of caller identification in Brazil. The proposal combines origin authentication with enriched information that helps the consumer understand who is calling and why that call is being made.
At the heart of this architecture is STIR/SHAKEN, a set of call authentication standards in IP networks. In conjunction with RCD - Rich Call Data - the solution can present additional data such as company name, logo and reason for the call.
The problem that Verified Origin tries to solve
The Brazilian consumer has become accustomed to being suspicious of unknown numbers. Spam calls, robocalls, scams, and Caller ID spoofing have reduced reliance on the phone as a relationship channel. This harms not only the user but also legitimate businesses that rely on voice to speak to their customers.
Banks, fintechs, hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, internet providers, logistics companies, collection operations, contact centers, and commercial teams live with the same challenge on a daily basis: making a legitimate call and still being ignored because the recipient does not recognize or trust the number.
How STIR/SHAKEN works
STIR/SHAKEN uses digital signature mechanisms associated with call signaling to allow the network to validate information related to the source. Technology is not just about displaying a beautiful name on the screen. Its central function is to create a chain of trust between the participants in communication.
In simple terms, the originating network subscribes to call-related information, and the destination network can verify that signature. This helps identify situations where the number presented has been manipulated or does not match the expected source.
The role of RCD
RCD stands for Rich Call Data. It is the layer responsible for carrying enriched information that can accompany an authenticated call. Among the data that can be displayed are company name, logo, reason for the call, and other context information.
It is important to separate the concepts: STIR/SHAKEN authentic. RCD enriches the presentation. Together, they form a more complete experience for the person who receives the call.
Validated Number and Trust
On supported devices and networks, the recipient can see an indication that the call originator has gone through the authentication process. This signaling increases transparency and helps the user differentiate a legitimate call from a phone impersonation attempt.
This does not mean that all content spoken during the call is automatically secure. Authentication validates the origin, it does not certify everything that will be said during the conversation. Still, it is an important layer against spoofing-based fraud.
Why Voicecorp bets on STIR/SHAKEN
Voicecorp understands that the next stage of business telephony will not only be to transmit voice with quality. It will be delivering voice with identity, context and trust. Therefore, the company's focus is on integration into the official STIR/SHAKEN and Verified Origin ecosystem, and not the simple resale of a private Branded Call solution.
The proposal is to prepare corporate customers for a telephony in which the number is no longer just a sequence of digits and starts to represent an authenticated business identity.
